What You Should Know...
To be eligible for a placement, students must be:
• 15 – 30 years of age
• planning to return to school in the fall
• eligible to work in Canada
• hired by a person to whom they are not closely related
• not currently working for the employer applying for the subsidy (unless the students hours of work will be increased from 24 hours or less per week to 35 hours or more)
To be eligible for a subsidized placement, employers must:
• provide a work opportunity that will occur in Ontario
• be in the private, non-profit or broader public sector
• not be closely related to the students they are hiring
• be in compliance with WSIB coverage or equivalent insurance and third party liability insurance
• not hire the students before applying to SJS
• not displace existing staff with students hired through SJS
